1. What is Sea option?

Sea freight is a new exciting method of getting goods to you. You can now bring in items like furniture, mattresses, large items like barbeque pit etc. to Singapore without paying high air freight rates. However, do expect to wait longer for the delivery of the items as we will be using vessels from US to Singapore and the entire journey takes about 35 to 60 working days from Sail Date.

2. What is Sail Date?

Sail Date is the date where the vessel will leave the port from US and en route to Singapore. This entire journey typically takes about 35 to 60 working days to arrive in Singapore.

3. How much will this cost?

There is a base charge of $39.90 for every single item you ship and a per kg charge of $3.90, depending on whether chargeable or actual weight is higher. There’s no bundling discount for this option. This service is available only for packages with a chargeable weight of 10 kg and above.

From 1st July 2016, (date inclusive) GST shall applies for all packages paid and shipped using Sea freight into Singapore. There is no GST relief for packages shipped using sea freight.

It is a more economical service to send vPost packages over to Singapore.

vPost USA charges S$1.50 per item per day for items which are held for more than 45 days from processed date.

12. What is the maximum size and weight of a package to be shipped via sea freight service?

Maximum Actual weight: 100KG
Maximum Length: 150 cm;
Packages that exceed the maximum length measurement cannot be shipped. Sea Freight is currently available for Singapore customers only.

>Note: vPost does not handle any kind of Project Cargoes. For example: large, heavy, high value or a critical pieces of equipment that require special lifting equipment.

Additional Delivery Surcharge will be imposed when a package exceeds the Maximum dimension and/or Maximum Actual Weight.

If your shipment requires special handling, there will an additional surcharge, which would be determined on an individual basis and customers will be notified of the details when their shipments arrive in Singapore.

For example: The shipment unable to fit into the Passenger Lift of the Delivery Address.

14. What is vCare?

vCare is an optional, performance warranty by SingPost to afford vPost members the added assurance that their packages will be protected against loss or damage during transportation (with certain exclusions). While we handle all packages with great care, loss or damage may occur due to unexpected events and accidents outside of our control. In the case of an incident, SingPost's liability as a shipper is capped at the full amount of shipping charges paid by you plus 50% of the declared value of the item for which a justified claim is made. With vCare, you will be covered (subject to limited exceptions) for the full amount of shipping charges paid plus 100% of the declared value of the item for which a justified claim is made, subject to a maximum cap of US$20,000 for all items shipped pursuant to a single consignment note. 15. Who may purchase vCare?

vCare is a service ancillary to vPost and is only available to registered vPost members. You may purchase vCare coverage for your packages shipped through vPost Shipping Services by choosing "ADD vCare" when you checkout.

16. How much do I have to pay for vCare coverage?

vCare charges will be based on the value of the goods and vPost shipping charges. All charges payable will be based on 3% of the declared item value subject to a minimum sum of S$9.90 for each consignment note. Declared item value shall include, but is not limited to, cost of the item, any vCare purchased for the local shipping vPost's overseas shipping facilities, local shipping charges to vPost's overseas shipping facilities and any other applicable charges paid. Limits of liability in relation to each consignment note to which vCare applies will be SGD$20,000. For more details, please click here

18. How do I file for Claims after purchasing vCare, in the event that I need to?

An enquiry should be raised via our Customer Service. Please call 1605(#4) or leave us a message
When submitting the claim, all relevant documents must be enclosed, including but not limited to the following:-

1. Content merchant invoice or purchase receipts of the article covered by vCare;

2. Photos of the external packaging and the damaged content to facilitate our investigation;

3. All correspondence exchanged with any third party responsible or potentially responsible for the loss or damage of the article.

19. Why do I have to pay GST for the package(s) that I import via vPost sea freight?

All goods imported by vPost sea freight is not granted GST relief. Should you need more information on GST, please visit Singapore Customs' website.

20. How do I calculate the Customs GST amount imposed on my online purchases for goods imported by vPost sea freight?

The current Customs GST rate is 7%.
Total Customs GST Chargeable = 7% on [Cost + vCare + Freight] where Cost is the total cost of products in a package / order paid to seller / Merchant that includes the item value, domestic shipping, handling charge etc., while vCare is the cost of purchasing optional vCare from vPost and Freight is vPost shipping charge for that item.
